Year of Mozart, the signature
of the divine Mozart appeared on the carpet dedicated to him |

| 1992 |
Brussels, Capital of Europe,
the role of the City of Brussels in the European Community was represented
by the arms of Brussels in the center of the European flag, with the
iris and the twelve flags of the European member countries, in the
two great borders of the carpet, all linked by a golden chain. But
as 1992 was also the year of the 500th anniversary of the discovery
of America, this commemoration was symbolized by a huge mariner's
compass set in the center of the carpet. |

| 1994 |
50th anniversary of the
Liberation of Brussels, the carpet was naturally dedicated to the
gallant liberators. Thus, the bearings of the two British regiments
and the intrepid "Piron Brigade", the "First Belgian Independent Group",
appeared alongside the arms of Brussels. |

| 1996 |
a garden "à
la française" with designs inspired by the Flemish Renaissance was
created for the pleasure of the eyes and spirit. Its stiff structure,
three large rectangles with their decorative stylised designs, was
inspired by the vegetable kingdom, heraldry and geometry. |

| 1998 |
a "true" false carpet, inspired
by the geometrical scalloped designs on the rugs of the semi- nomadic
tribes living today in NE of Turkey. The Flower carpet was made up
by a succession of the same motif in alternating colours on two parallel
strips surrounded by a wide border. |

| 2000 |
an original
and unrivalled floral composition: an ancient inlaid table covered
with a table runner in Brussels' lace bearing the of the symbol of
the City, the Archangel St. Michael overwhelming the devil. |

The overall appearance of
this garden could be summarised in 3 major parts: 2 similar, symmetrical
squares surrounding a large rectangle. What first catches the eye
in the design of these flower carpets is the predominance of round
patterns |

That year, the Flowercarpet was composed by 1.800 square metres of beautiful and shimmering "Art Nouveau"

This year, the Grand-Place will be animated by...a giant kaleidoscope : the 9 "rose windows" that compose this vegetal carpet are indeed fixed on revolving stages, spinning slowly but surely ! |
